We assisted Geoff Bailey of the Falkirk Local History Society and the main supervisor, Brian the Schnauzer in an excavation south of the Antonine Wall at Laurieston. We had a great weekend at Laurieston – with a Roman occupation layer trapped beneath the collapsed superstructure of the Antonine Wall, all lying over an Iron Age cultivation soil. Trampled into the surface of the Roman level were over 30 sherds of pottery from around 5 different vessels. And there was a large pit/post hole. Latest theory – a previously unidentified annexe!!
Many thanks to the owners for their hospitality, tea, sandwiches etc..
