On the final excavation of the season, fallen masonry had been removed and the objective of fully clearing Room 4 was achieved. A selection of good quality finds was recovered, including a pen rest ink bottle, an Ellimans Embrocation bottle (with its stopper) and a virtually undamaged stoneware jar and bottles.
We also recovered a terminal from an accumulator, many more fragments of the kitchen range including the front grille and also the base of a cast iron girdle and two pot lids. Also while cleaning the finds traces of surviving ash were noted in parts of the ash pan.
An exploratory trench over the gap in the east wall revealed a stone string course or wall foundation.
It has been a very successful season of excavation and we will be back briefly in July and August and then from 2nd September on Mondays to continue the sequence. Thanks to all who helped, and researched the finds etc
