Alongside excavation the EAFS research group searches through a range of historical documents to find out as much as possible about the history of the site. The group have discovered a huge amount about the Cammo Estate dating from John Menzies who built the house in 1693 to the current owners, City of Edinburgh Council. Census returns, valuation rolls, tax records, online genealogy sites, memoirs and archival material from Corstorphine Heritage Society along with numerous newspaper articles were investigated. Receipts exist for the walled garden and its plants, and these are being catalogued with the assistance of staff at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. Cammo is noted for its snowdrops, which were brought from East Lothian by William Hosie, a gardener employed by the Watson family in the late eighteenth century. He is buried in Corstorphine graveyard along with members of his family.
